If you’re a US taxpayer with a foreign corporation, you might need to file this survey

Alert

As Simon wrote in Notes From the Field recently, if you're a US taxpayer who owned more than 10% of a foreign company in 2014, you're required to file this year's Bureau of Economic Analysis' survey of US direct investments abroad -- called the BE-10 survey.

Our team looked into the BE-10 survey extensively, contacted with the BEA itself and parsed through the instructions and reporting requirements. In today's Alert we provide some guidelines who needs to file the BE-10 survey and what needs to be reported on the forms (for most people, it will only take you a few minutes).

Having said that, it's important to point out that the information provided in the SMC Alert shouldn't be construed as legal or tax advice. Our objective is to inform and educate you about potential reporting requirements, help you better understand the various forms, and hopefully save you some time.

Be aware that the due date for the BE-10 survey is June 30, 2015.
