We just had an excellent call with Van Simmons, founder of David Hall Rare Coins, and a leading expert in collectibles, particularly in numismatics

Given our recent Alert highlighting why this is an opportune time to purchase certain semi-numismatics, we couldn’t think of anyone better to discuss the topic with than Van — who, in his own words, describes himself as a “coin nerd.”

Van highlighted the current undervaluation of pre-1933 gold coins such as St. Gaudens, Liberty Heads, and Indian Heads. 

As we’ve mentioned in our recent Alert, premiums on these semi-numismatic coins are at historic lows, making this a compelling time to consider them for both their stability and potential for future appreciation.

He also explained the dynamics driving this market, including the temporary effects of increased supply from international sources. Despite this, the historical significance and enduring appeal of these coins make them a strategic alternative to standard bullion. 

Van noted that semi-numismatics offer comparable liquidity to bullion coins like American Eagles but with far greater upside potential, making them an attractive option for diversifying portfolios.

Van also shared his extensive experience in the collectibles market, not just in coins but across other collectible assets. 

We even spent time discussing collectible watches and another intriguing category of metal coins that Van views as an "arbitrage" opportunity for investors right now. His insights reinforced the diversity of opportunities within the collectibles space.
