Preparing your Plan B for tax season – 2018

Sovereign Confidential

Monthly Letter

It’s that time of year again, folks.

Time to shuffle through receipts and tax forms to pay your yearly penance to Uncle Sam.

And it’s time for our annual tax filing guide for those who have – or want to have – a robust Plan B.

Creating that powerful Plan B is essential – ESPECIALLY now.

As I’ve been writing to you about over the past weeks, all the themes we’ve been warning you about for years here at Sovereign Man – a national debt definitively and mathematically situated beyond the point of no return, ballooning interest rates, the Chinese and the Fed abandoning US Treasuries, falling stock prices – are all starting to happen.

Translation: Keeping your eggs in one geographic basket, especially if you are a US taxpayer, isn’t just foolish. It’s masochistic.

That’s why, for years, we’ve been pushing the idea of creating an internationalized, diversified Plan B, a plan that can ensure that you and your assets continue to thrive, no matter what happens with your home government.

There are enormous benefits – legal, financial, and generational – to sending at least some of your assets overseas. But there is a catch if you are a US taxpayer: You have to tell the government you’re doing so.

That means you need to know what Tax Forms to file - and when. In this piece, we’ll answer questions you might have about that subject.

This year, we’re also getting lots of questions about the Trump tax plan. In short:

1) No, the new tax legislation does not affect how you’ll file or what you’ll pay this April. The changes come into effect this year for next year’s April filing.

2) But YES, you might need to tweak certain aspects of your Plan B (and we’ll talk about that in this month’s letter) to best profit from the new legislation.

And there are some minor changes you should be aware of for this year… especially if you own any Bitcoin.

Per the usual disclaimer, none of this constitutes official tax advice, but we do hope it helps you understand the relationship between your Plan B and your taxes… as well as how to strengthen your strategies.
