Today’s guest on our latest Total Access Exclusive episode is not someone you’ll hear from on YouTube. Or see in mainstream news. And that’s one of the reasons why we wanted to talk to him – his invaluable, unbiased first-hand take on energy markets and frontier developments is unique…
Scott Osheroff doesn’t just write about the market developments from a comfortable desk at some big US investment bank. An investment analyst and investor himself, he lives out those experiences, gaining his expertise in energy commodities, oil and gas, and the trajectory of Asia and Eurasia in-person.
Over the past decade, Scott has lived in and deeply explored a number of frontier markets in South Asia, including Mongolia, Vietnam and Myanmar. He has spent the past few years living in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and is currently based there.
Some of you visited Uzbekistan back in 2019, during our TA boots on the ground trip to the country. And so naturally, we wanted to know what the situation is like on the ground now, given the geopolitical tensions in the region, as well as the recent pandemic.
James’ conversation with Scott covers much more than just Uzbekistan (although he does share some intriguing insights into the country’s economy, and even investment opportunities there).
They also discuss an important topic that’s on everyone’s mind these days: the future of energy markets. Scott explains how woke Environmental Social Governance (ESG) policies have disincentivized investments into numerous key industries, and we tease out what that means for all of us going forward.
Finally, Scott and James delve into the topic of industries that might have potential for disinflationary forces. Scott brings up manufacturing, and so we discuss cheap labor arbitrage opportunities, and the fact that those are very few nowadays.
We learned a lot from Scott today, and we hope you will, too.
